DOT inspectors don't ask random questions. They follow patterns. The same questions come up at weigh stations from California to Florida, from Texas to New York. If you know these questions cold — and practice responding in English out loud — you will pass the English proficiency check.
This guide gives you the 30 most common questions, the Spanish translation so you understand exactly what's being asked, and a sample English answer you can practice saying out loud.
Lee las preguntas. Entiende la traducción. Pero practica respondiendo en voz alta en inglés. Eso es lo que importa cuando estás frente a un inspector.
Read the questions. Understand the translation. But practice answering out loud in English. That's what matters when you're in front of an inspector.
💡 How to use this guide:
Read each question in English first. Try to answer it out loud before reading the sample answer. Then practice until your response is immediate and confident — no hesitation, no searching for words. That confidence is what an inspector is looking for.
